View RecordsPortsmouth, Virginia has Circuit and General District Courts, while New Hampshire has separate court access. Confirm the state before searching or requesting a case file.
Portsmouth, Virginia and Portsmouth, New Hampshire use different court systems. These are conditional examples, not a claim that every place named Portsmouth is covered. Start with a summons, judgment, citation or other paper identifying the state, court and case number. A police incident report describes an investigation; a court disposition records what happened to a charge; a state criminal-history report is a separate search product. Neither a city name nor a jail entry establishes a conviction.
Virginia’s Online Services directory links OCIS 2.0, which covers adult criminal matters in juvenile and domestic-relations district courts, criminal and traffic matters in general district courts, and selected circuit courts. It is not a promise that every case in every court appears. The separate Circuit Court Case Information service searches participating localities by name, case number or hearing date. Select Portsmouth and the correct court instead of transferring a result from another locality.
Save the court designation, case number, defendant identifiers and latest disposition from any result. Compare them with the original papers. If a case is pending or only a charge is shown, ask for the eventual final order before describing the matter as a conviction. A no-hit may reflect coverage or matching limits. The filing clerk, rather than a website administrator, is the follow-up point for a missing or apparently incorrect case entry.
Portsmouth General District Court’s criminal office is at 1345 Court Street, Suite 104; call 757-393-8681. Its published office hours are 8 a.m.–4 p.m. This court handles misdemeanor and preliminary-hearing work. Portsmouth Circuit Court’s clerk is at the same street address in Suite 101, telephone 757-393-8671, with office hours of 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Use the court identified in the case rather than assuming the two counters hold identical records.
Request the judgment, sentencing order or other named document, identify the case and say whether certification is required. Ask for the per-page and certification total, delivery method, permitted payment and expected completion before ordering. The cited Portsmouth court-directory pages do not publish a record-copy price or turnaround, so this guide does not invent one. Access to a public case summary does not automatically give access to restricted filings or juvenile records.
For Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the judiciary’s address list identifies the 10th Circuit, District Division, Portsmouth at 111 Parrott Avenue, Portsmouth, NH 03801-4490. Check the named court on the case papers, since a Rockingham Superior Court case belongs to a different clerk. The linked judiciary portal guidance and Rockingham directory are navigation starting points; current online coverage could not be confirmed here. If an online search is unavailable or inconclusive, ask the filing clerk for the public case record and its current copy and certification instructions.
For a Portsmouth NH police incident or arrest report, the city directs requests to its Records Unit at 3 Junkins Avenue. Call 603-610-7446; the counter is appointment-only Monday–Thursday and closed Friday. Its form requires a clear government photo-ID copy. The posted incident/arrest report charge is $15 plus $0.25 per page, with a waiver for people involved in the incident. This report does not replace a court judgment.
Virginia State Police uses SP-167 for individual or general-public history requests. The subject signs and notarizes the release; a separate recipient must also sign and notarize the recipient section. Generate the correct form, print it and mail it with the selected service’s fee to CARE, 7700 Midlothian Turnpike, North Chesterfield, VA 23235. VSP describes ordinary processing as about 15 business days and elsewhere 15–20; no same-day or expedited service is offered. Confirm the generated $15 or $20 service before payment.
New Hampshire’s State Police release form lists $25 per request, payable to State of NH – Criminal Records, and a mailing address of 33 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH 03305. It requires the subject’s knowledge and permission and a designated recipient for third-party release. Complete the identifying fields and applicable signature sections, and include a self-addressed envelope. The form contains inconsistent wording about notarization; verify the current requirement with the Criminal Records Unit before mailing. Portsmouth’s city Records Unit explicitly refers criminal-history requests to State Police.
A state repository response is limited to information reported to that repository. For an incorrect Virginia history entry, VSP directs the person to the arresting agency. New Hampshire’s release form describes a challenge through its central repository: identify the disputed entry, supply the correct version and explain supporting evidence. If the error concerns the judgment itself, obtain the filing court’s record. Keep court corrections, repository corrections and access requests distinct; changing a search spelling does not correct an official file.
